Magnetic Samet Nangshe Viewpoint in Phang Nga.

Viewpoints have a special place in my heart, if I hear about one, I have to visit it, and  will not rest until I’ve reached the top and got my pictures. A good viewpoint also involves a lot of stairs, the more stairs, the better the view.

However, Samet Nangshe Viewpoint does not involve any stairs, but a very steep ascent to the top on a very poor dirt road.  

The trip to the top is an experience you will remember for a long time.

Getting to Samet Nangshe: The Journey is Part of the Adventure

Samet Nangshe Viewpoint is in Tha Yu, Phang Nga Province, and is reachable from Phuket by driving straight north. It’s about an hour and a half from Phuket, and coming from Krabi or Khao Lak, the road to Samet Nangshe is straightforward.

Renting a vehicle is a good bet, though guided tours are also an option. When you arrive, there’s a small car park at the base for about 30 Baht. To reach the Viewpoint, you have two choices: pay 90 Baht for a ride on a pick-up truck or take at least 35-minute uphill trek.

If you ask me, the pick-up ride is the better option, the heat of the climb can be punishing. Either way, the journey is part of the experience.

What You’ll See from Samet Nangshe Viewpoint

At the top, you’re greeted with a panoramic view over Phang Nga Bay. A sea of limestone islets stands in quiet dignity, forming one of the most breathtaking sceneries in Thailand.

The sunrise and sunset views are spectacular, painting the bay in shades of pink and orange.

Perfect for a day trip, whether you’re coming from Phuket or Krabi. Start early to avoid the midday heat. After soaking in the views, consider exploring nearby attractions like kayaking through the mangroves or visiting James Bond Island, ftom the movie “The Man with the Golden Gun.”

There are some bungalows you can rent if you want to stay the night and a small campsite where tents are available for rent.

The idea of waking up to the sunrise over Phang Nga Bay is tempting—it’s definitely on my list for future visits. Check the weather forecast before you go. You do not want to get stuck there in a tropical downpour, and if it is overcast, you can not see the stars of the Milky Way.

The best time to visit Samet Nangshe is during the dry season If you’re planning to trekto the top , wear comfortable shoes and bring enough water start at sunrise, so you can start your climb early, it takes about 35 minutes to reach the top.

Yes, it is one of the most stunnig vewpoints, if not the most stunning, I have seen in Thailand, I have already visited severael times and I will visit agaien.
