Kamala

Where to eat in Kamala

Kamala was once a fishing village, and it still eats like one: grilled fish at plastic tables on the sand, family kitchens behind the beach road, and a handful of special places with a view over the bay. These are the restaurants from our own list, the ones we suggest to guests.

Local Thai

Simple seafood stalls and noodle shops, mostly at the southern end of the bay.

On the beach

Dinner with your feet near the sand, from Italian to Thai.

With a view

Hillside cafés and clifftop tables for sunset.

Local Thai cooking

Pavillion Seafood is a stone’s throw from Kamala Beach Estate: a busy, straightforward place for authentic Thai food at very fair prices. Highlights include the green curry with chicken and the crisp fried vegetables.

Blue Manao is one of the oldest restaurants in Kamala, serving everyday Thai dishes at affordable prices.

The Bua serves Thai food in a relaxed setting facing Kamala Bay, with friendly staff and reasonable prices. It is popular with locals as well as visitors.

At the southern end of the beach, the simplest seafood stalls need no menu: just ask what is fresh today.

By the sea

Dinner on the beach

Bella Vista brings classic Italian cooking to the beachfront, with fresh ingredients and a romantic evening setting.

Cocorico Beach Kamala mixes European and Thai dishes, so a curry and a French-inspired plate can share the same table.

Lillo Island Restaurant & Bar is known for local seafood, international favourites and well-made cocktails. Its sister, Little Lillo on Beach Road, is a relaxed spot for wine and small plates.

At the quieter northern end, Café Del Mar offers a beach-club evening with music, food and sunset drinks.

Cafés and tables above the bay

Baan Rai I Talay sits high on the hillside above Kamala, with sweeping views over the bay. Expect Thai and European dishes, good coffee, smoothies and cakes, in a garden of rattan, wood and sea breezes. Arrive in the late afternoon for sunset, and book ahead at weekends.

Sienna Rocks, on the edge of the cliff, is a lovely place for a slow breakfast or lunch: Italian coffee, sandwiches and salads with the sea below.

For a special evening, Plum Prime Steakhouse at Cape Sienna pairs steakhouse classics with a view over the sea, and Silk at Andara serves refined modern Thai cooking.
